BATTERY RELOCATION

  • This is the root of all my angst
The battery tray has been pulling out of the fender ever since I removed the inner fenderwells. Eventually it came all teh way loose and the battery almost fell out of the truck
  • New Battery Box
I picked up this plastic Comtico SUV toolbox at Lowes for $25.
  • New Battery Box
    The inside is pretty big.
  • New Battery Box
And the Group 78 battery fits like a glove.
  • New Battery Box
The tray however, does not. I had to cut it down on the lines pictured.
  • New Battery Box
This is how it fits inside my bed mounted aluminum toolbox.
  • Inside the battery box
Here the battery is mounted in hte box. The two gray plastic things to the left of the battery are for the passage of the battery cables.

  • PVC Piping
These are 1" liquid tight PVC conduit elbows from Lowes. I had to cut them down about 4" to get the perfect fit, btu there will never be the chance of the battery cables rubbing on any sharp metal edges.
  • PVC piping from below the bed
  • Bluesea 3/8" terminals
I chose to mount these to the firewall up out of the way.
  • 2/0 Cable
  • 2/0 Cable
  • Inside the battery box
This shows how the battery cables are routed in the box.
  • Cables under the bed
  • Cables along the frame
  • Cables entering the engine compartment
  • Up to the terminals.
The wiring is not complete in this picture, but you get the idea.
  • Another Shot
  • Yet Another
  • Alternator Connection
Yes, 2/0 is overkill, but I had some left over so I did it.
  • Engine ground
Again 2/0 Cable from the terminal, but I unly used 6 Ga to the frame.
  • Starter
  • Starter
  • Other crap
I decided to re-rout the factory engine harness while I was in here. God thing I did too. I have found quite a few things wrong so far.
